Fjallabyggð Council and Siglufjörður Pool, a public swimming pool in Siglufjörður, North Iceland.
Brief
My objective was to design and hand-paint an engaging mural for the community of Siglufjörður.
Outcome
Inspired by Norse mythology, I created a 12 metre long painting of the Midgard Serpent, a water serpent encircling the world. Known also as Jörmungandr, this serpent represents strength, resilience, and the unbreakable ties between humanity and nature—a theme relevant to Siglufjörður, nestled within the embrace of mountains and ocean.
This mural was rooted in a desire to encourage storytelling and connection, offering parents and grandparents a chance to share stories with younger generations and sparking conversations among swimmers.
This public artwork was part of a larger mural project that was made possible by culture grants from Fjallabyggð Council and Barnamenningarsjóður Íslands.
