Client
Deadly Kindy Burragah, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kindergarten program that focuses on culture, connection and community in conjunction with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (ATSICHS) Brisbane.

Brief
I was asked to design a Children’s book and was handed a big compiled A3 folder of children’s paintings, each with a short dictated story created by the Deadly Kindy Burragah class of 2020.

The aim was to share their kindergarten daily experiences with their local community and encourage kindergarten attendance. The really valuable thing about this book though is that features both Yugambeh language and English. The book was translated by the Yugambeh Museum, helping kids to strengthen their first language of Yugambeh.

Outcome
I personally saw great potential in this book, being the first children’s book to be translated into Yugembeh language. As well as having the privilege of designing this book, I learned how to self publish it and did so, ensuring that it had an ISBN. As a result this book is now listed in the National library catalogue and is for sale in a local Brisbane bookshop (The Avid Reader), where we launched the book with a live reading and kids painting event.

The book can also be purchased online with all proceeds going towards ATSICHS Deadly Kindys. Available online here.
